Alicia Silverstone says to chew your food (each bite) thirty times. To me, this is a great hurdle because I wolf down my food. Attractive, right? I’ve been trying her method, this thing she calls consciously eating, which I have failed to do most of my life. I am doing it, but believe me, it isn’t easy and I don’t always make it to 30.
I am still enjoying my vegan foods though. I am eve eating a scrumptious breakfast of Worthington Meatless Sausage (not bad), Van’s Gluten free waffles (should check if they are vegan so I am not going to claim that they are) with Earth Balance Butter (very good!) and maple syrup. It feels like a very decadent Sunday brunch, and yet, it is much better and healthier! Maybe next weekend I will try to tackle a tofu scramble. I have to admit though, I am afraid to death of cooking tofu on my own instead of store bought pre-made goodies.
I tried for the first time making one of the recipes out of Alicia’s book last night. The Coffee Fudge Brownies. Now, I messed up. In theory, if I would have followed the directions exactly (which I didn’t) they would have come out excellent. However, I: 1)Did not have enough cocoa powder and had to improvise and use a sugar free swiss miss hot chocolate packet. 2) used brown sugar instead of maple (could not find maple) 3) Didn’t sift the flours together but stirred them (may or may not have actually effected recipe 4) Decided because of lack of cocoa, I threw in some vegan and grain chocolate chips, too many, into the batter to bake with. Therefore, it never really solidified very well and was a big, fudgey mess. But still tasty! Might try again tonight.
One last thing, would it be completely horrible of me if I bought a leather coat? I forever have wanted one, and finally found some on sale. I don’t want the faux, I hate those, I want the real thing. But, would this go against everything so far? Dilemma!
Ok now really one last thing, the other night, I went to Blockheads in the city. I was amazed that they had some vegan options. I created my own vegan nachos and they were DELICIOUS. I love nachos. These nachos were top notch. They were covered in soy cheese, tofu sour cream, jalapenos and salsa cruda. Props to you Blockheads!
